What does Devision do?

We design and build websites, fix and extend the ones that already exist, and look after them afterwards. We also build the awkward parts - booking systems, e-commerce, integrations with whatever else you run. The people who build it are the people who host it and answer the phone.

Does Devision work with agencies?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If you have no development team, or a job your team cannot take on, we build it under your name - complex functionality, sites you have inherited, hosting for a whole portfolio. We invoice you rather than your client, and we will sign your NDA. Our terms prohibit us from identifying you, your client or the work.

Can Devision fix an existing website?

Yes, including sites we did not build and do not host. A paid diagnosis establishes what is actually wrong, and if the honest answer is that the site is not worth repairing, we will tell you that. Fixes, performance work, refactoring and new functionality can all happen on a site that is already live - no rebuild, and no need to move hosting.

Do you build WordPress sites?

Yes. WordPress is our main platform, usually with a theme written by hand rather than bought off the shelf. Where WordPress is the wrong tool for the job, we build a custom application instead.

Do you write code by hand or use templates?

Accepted Answer

Hand-written by default. Where a page-builder such as Elementor or Divi is genuinely the right answer - the budget, or you wanting to edit everything yourself - we will say so and build on it properly. That decision is made at planning and priced there, never sprung on you later. Either way, you can take the site elsewhere.

How much does a website cost?

Every project is priced as a whole and agreed in writing before any work starts. The figure moves with how much there is to build, how much of it already exists, and how many other systems it has to talk to. We publish no rate cards and no price bands. Smaller pieces of work are quoted the same way, before they begin.

How long does a website take to build?

Accepted Answer

We generally quote eight to ten weeks from design approval. With everything to hand and the design signed off, a straightforward project can be three to four weeks. Planning takes about a week, or two if the scope is still open. Design starts from a week where the brief is clear. Testing is about a week, or two on a large build. You choose the launch date once testing is signed off, and the cutover itself takes hours rather than days. The build stage is scoped per project - we will not guess a duration.

Do you offer hosting?

Yes. We host on our own servers in the UK and run our own name servers, so domain records, mail routing and certificates are handled here rather than queued with somebody else's support desk. Hosting is billed monthly in advance on a twelve-month minimum term, then rolls on monthly with one calendar month's notice. An existing site can move across without being rebuilt, usually inside a day.

Do I have to host with Devision if you build my site?

It depends what you are asking us to do. If you have your own infrastructure and a team to run it, we can do the design and build and deploy onto your servers. Where we are building and looking after the site, it is hosted with us - on our own servers, with a twelve-month minimum term. Hosting is not an add-on we attach to a build; it is how we can stand behind the thing we have made.

What happens after the site goes live?

It stays hosted, patched and backed up, and we stay reachable 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. For sixty days after launch, anything broken in what we built is fixed at no charge, and each fix carries a further sixty days of its own. Keeping the site itself current - content management system, plugins and themes - is the managed hosting tier. New sections and functionality can be added later without starting again.

What is included in the price?

The agreed build in full, at one figure fixed in advance, plus sixty days of warranty from launch - and every fix carries a further sixty of its own. Any commercially licensed software the site depends on is named and priced before you commit, so there is no annual surprise later. Hosting, ongoing upkeep and anything added after launch are quoted separately, so you can see what is what.

Who will I deal with on a project?

The people who build and run the site. There is no account manager in front of them and nobody who needs the job explained twice. Agencies deal with the same people, and your client only meets us if you introduce them.

How do I get a quote?

Question 17

Can you take over a website somebody else built?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We work on sites we did not build and do not host, and we take over hosting for sites built elsewhere. You do not have to rebuild the site or move hosting to get work done on it. If you have inherited a site, we will assess what is actually there and give you a straight answer about whether it is worth keeping.

Question 18

Who owns the website when it is finished?

Once the project is paid for in full, you hold a licence to use everything we delivered for its intended purpose. The code is portable: if you leave, you take a working site with you rather than something that stops functioning. We keep the right to reuse components and methods that are not specific to you.

Question 19

What happens if my site goes down?

Accepted Answer

A site that is down is looked at as soon as we know about it, and it goes ahead of other work. Support runs 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, and anything urgent is best handled by phone. There are no contractual response or resolution times. We target 99.95% uptime, excluding scheduled maintenance and outages at third parties.

Do you work with clients outside the UK?

Yes. We have worked with clients outside the UK and are happy to take them on.

Question 21

Can I leave? What notice do I have to give?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Hosting runs for twelve months to begin with, then rolls on monthly - one calendar month's notice either way after that, or three if you are on Fully Managed Services. DNS hosting, domains, retainers and support are one calendar month throughout. Notice goes in writing to accounts@de.vision, and the site leaves with you working rather than broken.

Question 22

Do you do one-off work, or emergency jobs?

Yes. A hack clean-up, a single fix, a small change - quoted as a one-off, no retainer and no minimum. And if a site is compromised and the risk is immediate, we may act first to protect it, tell you straight away, and bill the time. Waiting for a reply while a site is defaced helps nobody.
